Good Citizen Social Work

Here, I wanted to add my Good Citizen Social Work initiative to the website. I write about and post resources for vulnerable communities, ways to engage in macro-level social work practice, how to keep healthy in your communities, and how to get more involved in advocacy and policy so that you can make a difference in your neighborhoods.

This page is for social workers, citizens, and anyone looking for support. It can be anything you want it to be — and I want your input! Let me know what is helpful to link to and I will do my best to add it here.

To get the page started, check back for writing and resources. In the meantime, you can see more on my Substack and Instagram pages for the initiative, Good Citizen Social Work:

This June, there are ways to support the LGBTQ+ community — whether it is you, a family member or a neighbor you want to be there for. Here are some general tips and resources for making this June more affirming and safe for your queer friends:

  1. Use the pronouns that your queer friend has designated for themselves. This is meant to affirm your friend’s experience, not confuse you.
  2. If your queer friend is coming out, make it a safe space for them through respecting privacy, being open if they are ready to come out, and directing them to resources that can help them in the process. Be a good ally!
  3. Advocate. Write to your local, state and federal policy makers to keep LGBTQ+ rights intact. Let’s move forward together, not backwards alone.
  4. Listen. If you or a queer person you know doesn’t have a safe means of support, be a person that they can talk to. Or help them discover professional help through therapy and helplines that can connect them with dedicated helpers.
